Gauntlet Directors Branch Out

Two insurance professionals from the Leeds-based Gauntlet Group have bought into the group’s new business opportunity so much that they’ve decided to give it a go themselves.

In the true spirit of the Remington advertising strap line of the late 1970s, Ian McCarron and Paul Coates, have established their own Appointed Representative (AR) brokerage – McCarron Coates – with Gauntlet’s backing.

McCarron Coates will work with fast-growing Gauntlet, which was established by managing director, Roger Gaunt, as a bus and coach insurance specialist, in 1994.  Roger is still at the helm of the company and led it to Chartered insurance broker status in 2017, with the hard-work of the Gauntlet managerial team.

Ian and Paul will still liaise with Gauntlet on a day-to-day basis, tapping into its in-depth experience and resources to assist clients with their commercial and motor fleet needs.

Whilst Ian and Paul build their business, the Gauntlet head office team, comprising over 60 employees, will provide them with expert back-up and support.  The pair now become one of over 40 ARs partnering with Gauntlet through its Appointed Representative arm, Gauntlet Enterprise.

Roger Gaunt, managing director of Gauntlet, says: “We are naturally delighted to have two talented people driving forward a business that is shared between them and Gauntlet Group.  Their growth will directly benefit Gauntlet’s.

“Having mentored them for many years, it is rewarding to see them start their own business, with our support.”

The bus and coach team at Gauntlet remains unchanged, with vastly experienced sales manager, Angela McIver, and head of motor new business, Thomas O’Connell, heading up both the bus and coach and the haulage insurance division and being the voices on the line with which clients will be familiar.
